  • Objective: to promote community interest in history in general and in the Blue Mountains in particular. 
  • Meetings: first Saturday of each month (except January) at the Society's headquarters at Hobby's Reach.  When a talk is given by an invited speaker, or by a member. 
  • Excursions: to places of historical interest, held on the second Monday of most months.

 Research Centre


  • Over 10,000 records of people, places and events in the Blue Mountains. 
  • Over 5,000 historic photographs. 
  • Wheelchair access.
  • Open every Tuesday, 10am until 2pm, Friday 10am to 12 noon. 
    Research officer available to assist with personal research
  • Research can be done for you, incurring a charge. 
  • Documents can be copied on site.
  • Copies of photographs and other images can be ordered.

Exhibitions of historic photographs are held throughout the year with the subjects changed from time to time.

 Historic Cottage


Historic Tarella Cottage, built in 1890, is in its original state and open to the public.

  • Society Publications:  covering Wentworth Falls, the McLaughlin Family, and the Blue Mountains Historical Society.  
  • Member's Publications: Various titles covering the Blue Mountains and general history of Australia.  
  • Sales: All books are sold in the Tarella Cottage shop.
