Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum

Press release: Everyone a winner at Valley Heights!

Despite inclement weather on both days, the Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum recently hosted a fabulous “Trains, Trams & Ts” event as part of the “Roaring 20s & All That Jazz” festival. Several hundred visitors thoroughly enjoyed the extra activities over the weekend, with displays of Model “T” and “A” Fords, vintage motorbikes, a realistic old style school classroom where kids could write with pen and ink, courtesy of Nepean District Historical Society, and a family research booth hosted by the Nepean Family History Society. All this was accompanied by the fabulous swinging sounds of the flapper era performed by the talented members of the Blue Mountains Jazz Ensemble, ably administered by Wayne Harris who introduced their new vocal team of Siobhan Clifford and Liam Gray.

Many visitors entered into the spirit of the occasion by appearing in their best 1920s outfit, and several of them won a category prize for their creative effort (details on website). All entrants, who posed (under controlled conditions) near the front of the historic 1890 Sydney Steam Tram, received free copies of their photos by email.

The Museum’s remarkable array of exhibits was well patronised, with special interest shown in our latest addition, a stunningly realistic audio loop in the cab of “infamous” TF class steam loco 5461, which recreates a chat between a driver and fireman preparing for the day’s work, complete with sound effects! The Steam Tram was full of smiling faces on every trip, and kids played in puddles as the band played on. A good weekend all round!
